Dreu VanHoose is the proud owner of VanHoose Hemp Co, located in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. Her interest in plant science began during her time at Drexel University, where she researched plant cannabinoids and the human endocannabinoid system for her chronic back pain. After teaching herself how to cultivate cannabis in Washington D.C., she inherited a 10-acre plot of land in Alabama and began growing cannabis after the Farm Bill passed in 2018.
Dreu is also the recipient of the Young Farmers Grant and partners with historically black colleges and universities for cannabis cultivation research. Through VanHoose Hemp Co., she advocates for and creates a space for women, individuals with previous cannabis-related charges, and disabled veterans to flourish in the industry. Her company’s slogan is “Real, Organic and Rooted” and she hopes to empower others to join her in this emerging industry.
